How do renewable power Feed-in Tariffs work?

Feed-In Tariffs work by allowing those who generate renewable power through approved means to qualify for financial incentives from their electricity suppliers. There are a number of technologies that can be used for power generation. Those eligible for registration into the Feed-In Tariff scheme are solar (photovoltaic), hydro, anaerobic digestion and wind.

You don't have to export excess renewable power to benefit from the scheme though as your supplier will pay you a guaranteed amount for the amount of renewable power you generate via approved renewable technology. The tariff you receive will last for the life of the tariff and will be adjusted for inflation on an annual basis.

In most instances a second electricity meter is required to log how much electricity you are feeding back into the National Grid.
